NOT AS WHITE
This picture is being submitted as part of a 52 week challenge I am following on Facebook, theme ‘White’.
The first thing which I noticed as a child, while visiting Taj Mahal, was the sheer whiteness of it. I’d never seen so spotless and pristine white marble before that.
Now, however, it’s a different story. Its no longer as white as it used to be. Air pollution and acid rains have got to it. Much of the blame has been put on an oil refinery in a nearby city. Marble by itself is a very porous stone, however for a monument which was completed in 1653 AD to have lost its whiteness appreciably in the last 20 years or so is disturbing.
Taj Mahal also features in the seven wonders of the world. It is uncertain what shall remain of its beauty for our next generation.
Very nice Ausaf.
Thank you Julio 🙂
Beautiful photo. Sad that it’s being impacted by pollution.
Yes, its indeed very sad 😦
Thanks for your visit.
speriamo tanto che gli esseri umani si rendano presto conto che non hanno nessuno diritto di disfare ciò che è stato costruito con amore
We hope so much that humans make soon realize that they have no right to undo what has been built with love
Beautiful composition and detail!
wonderful detail on the building
What a beautiful shot of an icon. Lovely.
Beautiful shot =)
This is really interesting! I had no idea that there were problems with the stone changing color.
Yes its sad. Marble is a porous stone.
The discoloration of Taj Mahal is pretty well documented on internet.
Had you not stated so, I never would have guessed this to be the same gleaming white Taj Mahal that I’ve seen in so many other pictures.
It’s sad but true 😦
