TRICKY SELFIE

Though it may appear to be complicated, it’s actually quite simple. This is actually quite similar to my previous post on this blog.

This image was shot in a bathroom mirror and later flipped in Photoshop. I’d used an off-centre flash to provide some illumination and to bring out some detail on the camera body. The pop-up flash, visible in the image, was used to trigger the off-centre flash. Though I knew that pop-up flash fires at low intensity to communicate with slave flash, I wasn’t aware that it happens while the shutter is open. I used to believe that the master-slave communication happens a fraction of a second before the shutter got triggered. One learns every day!

The recursive effect was achieved using a free Photoshop plugin, ‘Pixel Bender’. ‘Pixel Bender’ is a nice plugin with various effects, of which ‘Droste’ was used here. ‘Droste’ effect has a lot of sliders and it takes some patience to get the image correctly centred and positioned as per your liking. But it’s a fun process.

[Edit: ‘Pixel Bender’ isn’t supported upwards of Photoshop CS5.
