Tricky Selfie
EXIF: Canon EOS 60D, Lens: EF-S15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, Focal length: 50mm, Manual, 1/50 sec, f/13, ISO 100, Off centre flash to camera left.
TRICKY SELFIE
Though it may appear to be complicated, it’s actually quite simple. This is actually quite similar to my previous post on this blog.
This image was shot in a bathroom mirror and later flipped in Photoshop. I’d used an off-centre flash to provide some illumination and to bring out some detail on the camera body. The pop-up flash, visible in the image, was used to trigger the off-centre flash. Though I knew that pop-up flash fires at low intensity to communicate with slave flash, I wasn’t aware that it happens while the shutter is open. I used to believe that the master-slave communication happens a fraction of a second before the shutter got triggered. One learns every day!
The recursive effect was achieved using a free Photoshop plugin, ‘Pixel Bender’. ‘Pixel Bender’ is a nice plugin with various effects, of which ‘Droste’ was used here. ‘Droste’ effect has a lot of sliders and it takes some patience to get the image correctly centred and positioned as per your liking. But it’s a fun process.
[Edit: ‘Pixel Bender’ isn’t supported upwards of Photoshop CS5.
Thank for the info Herman}
This picture is being submitted as part of a 52 week challenge I am following on Facebook, theme ‘Tricky’.
Great shot! Can’t help but smile when I look at this ~ looks so complicated.
Thank you 🙂
I am glad you liked the image.
Seems that Adobe does not support pixel bender for CS6 anymore …
Oh… One more reason for me to not upgrade my CS5
ooooo aaaaaa so so cool!
Thank you JoLynn 🙂
Nice effect. Well done!
Thank you
You did it again, Ausaf, another superb shot :-)…
Thank you Yasmine 😀
I am so glad you liked it.
I love the things we are able to do with photos now. Great shot. I love the effects you’ve created. Very cool.
Thank you Maggie. You always leave very kind comments on my post.
Yes indeed, as with lot of other things in life, technology has made image making very simple.
Photographers look at the world in twisted ways. Very nice.
(By the way, I just bought the new Nikon Super-Selfie Lens. It’s only $1800 and lets you avoid all that tedious work in Photoshop.)
Thanks Daniel. You have put it very aptly 🙂
(And I almost fell for that 😛 )
Love it. So creative and fun.
Thank you Christy.
Yes, making this image was a lot of fun 🙂
Oh my goodness! You are so creative. This is a fantastic image. I don’t understand anything you explained above, but then that is not unusual for me when it comes to technical stuff 🙂
Thank you Anne. I realise I need to be clearer about what I did 🙂
My understanding, or not in this case, has nothing to do with your explanation but my own lack of technical ability 🙂
Hahahaha. You are very kind Anne!
I just went through your blog. You are so multi talented! Amazing.
Your craft work is very inspiring.
Very very cool! Can’t wait to check this out!!
🙂
